plastic bottle syndrome

I'm Aoi Hashima , an occupational therapist working in Saga Sumai and Fukuoka.

The hot days are still going on, so it is necessary to take measures to prevent heatstroke such as hydration and environmental adjustment.

For hydration, even if you know the water is good, sometimes you might want a soft drink in a plastic bottle sold at a vending machine.

Sports drinks and salt-containing oral rehydration solutions are recommended after sweating profusely through exercise or outdoor work, but they contain sugar, so it's important to drink them appropriately.

If you continue to drink large amounts of fruit juices and sports drinks, you risk falling into the so-called "plastic bottle syndrome."

This time, I want to write an article about "plastic bottle syndrome".

What is PET Bottle Syndrome?

The official name for plastic bottle syndrome is "soft drink ketosis."

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's eHealth website describes "PET bottle syndrome" as "high blood sugar caused by rapidly absorbed sugar due to excessive consumption of carbonated and soft drinks."

Drinking a lot of sugary beverages, such as plastic bottled beverages, will cause sugar that is easily absorbed by the body to be absorbed at once, causing high blood sugar.

High blood sugar can make you thirsty, and you can get caught in a vicious cycle of drinking high-sugar beverages.

People with diabetes or prediabetes in particular, when blood sugar levels suddenly rise, are likely to experience impaired insulin secretion and glucose utilization, and may fall into severe PET bottle syndrome.

Severe plastic bottle syndrome, known as "diabetic ketosis," can lead to symptoms such as coma and coma.

Symptoms of Plastic Bottle Syndrome

If you regularly drink soft drinks from plastic bottles, check for the symptoms below.

✔ easily thirsty

✔ drink a lot

✔ Increased frequency of toilet visits

✔ Lose weight fast

✔ It is difficult to feel full after eating

✔ Stiff shoulders

✔ Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain

At the end

As a countermeasure against heat stroke, hydration is very important.

But be careful not to drink a lot of fluids other than water.

Be careful how often you drink coffee and tea as a luxury.

I think by understanding plastic bottle syndrome, you can pay attention to how often you drink sugary drinks.

I hope you find the content of the blog useful.
