About "understanding" and "persuasion" related to "speaking"

I'm Aoi Hashima , an occupational therapist working in Saga Sumai and Fukuoka.

When working in a hospital, "speaking" is essential in everyday tasks, such as talking to patients, and talking to staff.

There are multiple contexts for "speaking", and of course the dialogue is constructed according to the context.

Also, there are more opportunities to feel that "speaking" requires diversity in the first place.

The diversity of "how to use honorifics" and "vocabulary skills" that have hitherto been considered common is spreading, requiring a more tolerant response.

In "Language Communication for Mutual Understanding," the Agency for Cultural Affairs proposes four elements as clues for smooth communication through words.

Four elements of language communication

In communication, it is important to understand the following four elements and adjust the priority and balance of each according to the purpose.

□ Accurate: what is needed to communicate with each other, without errors, without excess or deficiency

□ Appropriateness: Communicate by designing a way of speaking that is in harmony with the purpose, setting, and situation, and takes into account the feelings of the other party

□ Easy to understand: communicate in a way of designing expressions, so that the other party can fully understand the content

□ Respect and friendliness: communicate with each other and keep a comfortable distance

I believe that text is not a one-way flow, but the first time it played the role of "communication" when mutual communication was born.

In day-to-day clinical practice, there is a need to create opportunities to talk to the patient, for example to explain the content of recovery and to confirm the patient's envisioned goals.

Through repeated participation in the Participant Association, I have learned that it is important to establish two-way communication when talking to patients.

I believe that when two-way communication is established, there is a sense of accomplishment, satisfaction, and empathy.

able to understand each other

In the process of two-way communication, there will always be moments when we can understand each other. I think being able to understand each other is a state of mutual understanding.

By talking to each other, we can understand each other's thoughts and feelings, and potentially accept each other's thoughts.

By getting to know each other, we can deepen our understanding, get to know each other, and feel safe and fulfilled.

convincing results

I believe that when we can understand each other, we will be convinced.

The way we believe changes from time to time, but I think it's first and foremost based on a trusting relationship.

Hospitalized patients are often upset, they may be experiencing things for the first time, and may not know what to tell and who to tell.

In times like these, building trust is important.

We believe that conversations based on trusting relationships will lead to beliefs.

Compelling consequences include:

□ Improve action ability: improve action ability, improve performance, and go all out

□ Mental stability: sense of recovery, mental stability, peace of mind

□ Establishment of thinking: Stop understanding/establishment of thinking

□ Satisfaction: happy, satisfied, fulfilled, QOL

□ Building trusting relationships: building relationships, trust and mutual understanding

□ Self-acceptance: self-affirmation, self-reflection, acceptance

□ Growth direction: self-expansion, advanced topics

Among them, I think the important ones are "improving the ability to act", "stabilizing the state of mind" and "self-affirmation".

During the recovery process, it is important to have the ability to change behavior and think about doing what you can do instead of leaving it for others to do.

In order to appear to change your actions, you need a solid explanation that you need to understand and be persuaded.

At the end

I wrote about the "understanding" and "persuasion" I have recently felt in relation to "talking."

In order to establish two-way communication, I want to work in a way that allows me to build trusting relationships in everyday clinical situations.
