I am an occupational therapist working in Saga Suma and Fukuoka Aoi between the bridges .
After a stroke , it's hard to keep up with what's happening suddenly. I think it came up.
Rehabilitation begins shortly after acute post-stroke management is completed.
During this time , even if you want to do your best in recovery, you may not be able to keep up with how you feel and may be misinterpreted by those around you as " not motivated " or " not motivated . "
Whenever I meet someone who has just had a stroke, I ask myself: " How are you feeling now? "
I often come across people who are unilaterally labelled " unmotivated " by medical professionals .
I think it's important to understand motivation so that the patient's feelings can be considered when rehabilitating after a stroke.
This time, I want to write another article on motivation.
Motivation Status Report
One study analyzed post-stroke interview content into high and low motivation (ref. 1 ).
It seems that many highly motivated people believe that physical and mental function will recover with effort, while many low-motivation people believe that recovery will require waiting.
In addition, people with high motivation felt it was important to follow the methods instructed by the rehab staff, while those with low levels of motivation said they did not understand what the rehab staff thought about recovery.
In addition, people with low motivation worry about whether they can live at home and seek all kinds of information.
And those with low motivation were afraid to express their feelings to employees, feeling that they might be rejected.
A compilation and analysis of various papers on motivation
In Citation / Reference 2 , various things are studied from past papers.
In this report, the following factors are cited as influencing the motivation of post-stroke patients.
✔ Personal characteristics of the target
✔ family present
✔ cultural background
✔ physical environment
✔ The presence or absence of personal goals
✔ with or without encouragement
✔ social support
✔ Benefits to everyday life
✔ Feels like you escaped training
✔ keep on target
✔ believe in recovery
✔ attitude of medical staff
✔ Psychological and physical benefits of training
Consider the relationship between motivation and medical staff
This time, I write about motivation with two quotes and references.
I think these two documents are consistent with what we hear from patients in day-to-day clinical situations and what we receive from various parties and social media.
□ Fear of telling employees how you feel and how they might be rejected.
□ Attitude of medical staff
We understand that after a stroke, your motivation is not only determined by your physical condition and future goals, but also by how you interact with your medical staff.
Regarding relationships with medical professionals, we often hear their opinions and experiences at meetups and SNS .
Motivational state has a great influence on whether the patient himself is actively recovering.
I want to provide daily recovery support , bearing in mind that not only the patient's own condition, but also the attitude of the medical staff themselves can influence motivation.
